A grenade thrown at a pro-Serbian rally killed one protester and injured more than 10 others in Kosovo’s tense northern city of Mitrovica on the 2 July 2010. Serbian leaders described the attack as 'terrorism' and a 'provocation' that confirmed their earlier warnings against independence for the territory, whose ethnic Albanian leaders declared independence in February 2008. Subsequently, on the 6 July 2010, a Serb member of Kosovo’s parliament was shot and wounded in Mitovica. Petar Miletic, chief of the parliamentary group for the Independent Liberal party, was known for being co-operative with the ethnic Albanian-dominated institutions based in Pristina. |
