Book abstract:

This third edition of 'Q & A EC Law' has been updated to reflect the changes in law which have taken place since the second edition was published in 1998. The book provides the undergraduate on EC law courses with a number of example questions which they might have to tackle in exams.

Each chapter covers a certain aspect of EC Law such as the Union's institutions, the sources of Community law, the jurisdiction of the Court of Justice, the free movement of goods and merger and competition law. There is also a useful chapter at the end of the book which covers 'mixed subject' questions where the student is asked to consider more than one topic. Following a brief introduction to the topic, each chapter contains upwards of four questions which are followed by a brief discussion of the type of question, the main aspects to be considered and advice on particular issues to be aware of and the structure of one's answer. These commentaries are followed by suggested answers which would merit an upper second or better and should provide the student with an idea of how to get a good mark rather than a model answer to be learnt by heart. All the answers have been designed with exams in mind and do not provide enough detail for assessed course work.

This book will prove a useful revision guide for all students of EC Law presenting the material in a reader-friendly and accessible manner.

Nigel Foster is a senior lecturer in Law at Cardiff Law School.
