Summary:Directive 76/160/EEC introduced procedures for monitoring the quality of bathing water with two objectives: to protect public health and to safeguard the quality of the environment. Overall, the results recorded over the last few years show that bathing water quality is improving. The information for each Member State takes two forms: a summary of the principal parameters for the bathing water and of any changes compared with the previous year; one or more maps produced with the aid of the Corine programme. This is the eighth report of this series published by the Commission of the European Communities. |
