The UK government hopes to lead the way in pollution permit trading by launching Europe's first comprehensive, national scheme in April 2002. In February 2002 the government will auction £215 million in incentive money for businesses willing to commit themselves to reducing emissions. To date 90 companies, including British Airways and Rolls-Royce, have expressed interest in participating.
