Radical EU reforms mean end of mergers watchdog

Radical reforms proposed for the European Commission's merger control system will see the disappearance of the Merger Task Force, the team of officials that scrutinises most deals. The Commission is likely to approve the proposed changes in April 2003, and the task force would be dissolved from 2004.
