Rebalancing Europe

This is a transcript of a speech made by Dr Jens Weidmann, President of the Deutsche Bundesbank, on 28 March 2012 at Chatham House, London.

Dr Weidmann highlighted various aspects of the European sovereign debt crisis, in particular the problem of current account imbalances and potential adjustment paths. He also discussed the role of the Eurosystem in fighting the crisis, and explored the risks of a monetary policy that enters fiscal policy territory.
