Date: 14/03/1996 has confirmed her wish to leave unchanged the list of declining industrial areas eligible for EU structural aid for the next three years. But in its review of Objective 2 of the Structural Funds - covering 1997-1999 - the Commission suggests that member states be allowed flexibility to swap some new areas for those which have benefited from EU aid since 1994 “where certain industrial areas have experienced a serious worsening of their economic situation”. The Commission will now begin detailed negotiations on the proposal with member states. |
