During the reporting period, with regard to strengthening democratic governance, Jordan recorded legislative improvements on the independence of the judiciary and on women's rights. The presence of Syrian refugees continued to put pressure on Jordan's economy, and the European Union maintained its role in supporting Syrian refugees in Jordan as well as hosting communities.
