Summary:

Report published by the European Commission in November 2011 on the implementation of Council Regulation (EC) No 1/2005 relating to the protection of transported animals.

Further information:

Regulation (EC) 1/2005 lays down common rules for the transport of live vertebrate animals between European Union (EU) countries in order to prevent injury or unnecessary suffering to the animals.

The report suggests that protection of animals during transport improved since the Regulation was made effective. However, it also highlights a series of problems hampering further improvement in the transport conditions of these animals.
