Dmitry Medvedev, the Russian President, demanded an investigation into a cyber attack in April 2011 that shut down one of Russia’s most popular blogging platforms, LiveJournal.

However, bloggers and cybersecurity experts said that the attacks must have been ordered by someone with links to the government itself, given the resources the operation must have required.

Russian media also reported that a similar attack had hit Novaya Gazeta, a newspaper often critical of official policies.
