Sarkozy confirms intention to run in 2017 presidential primaries

Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy announced on the 2 July 2016 plans to quit his role as head of France’s Les Republicains party (formerly the Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) party), setting up a potential bid to become the candidate for the centre-right in the Presidential elections of 2017.
