Saying no – An analysis of the Irish opposition to the Lisbon Treaty

This report provides an in-depth analysis of the no side in both referenda on the Lisbon treaty, in June 2008 and October 2009. It first explores various facets of the no side, highlighting the common themes. Subsequently it examines the nature of the no vote itself, explaining the information deficit and analysing the exit poll data. Finally, it includes a review of no votes throughout Europe from the failed attempt to create the European Defence Community in 1954 to the defeat of the European Constitution in 2004.
