THE Red Cross and Transport Commissioner Loyola de Palacio have launched a campaign to reduce traffic accidents involving children and their parents during the daily 'school run'.

The slogan for the EU-wide campaign - targeting children aged seven-11 and their parents is "You've only got one life so take care!" De Palacio said: "Teaching the children of today will create a culture of safety among tomorrow's teenagers, the main risk group for road accidents."

Activities will include first aid initiation courses during the summer and Christmas holidays and a World First Aid day in September 2003.

The campaign - the first to include the Union's ten new members - ends on World Health Day, 7 April 2004, the commissioner added.

The European Commission and the Red Cross have joined forces to launch a campaign, 'You've only got one life so take care!', which aims to reduce traffic accidents involving children during the daily school run.
