Schröder to bring in bold market reforms

In a speech to the Bundestag on 14 March 2003, the German Chancellor, Gerhard Schröder, committed his government to a far-reaching programme of social, economic and labour market reforms. Mr Schröder announced cuts in entitlements to unemployment benefits and a simplification of the benefits payments system, in a move that will ease the financial burdens of local authorities.
