Scrutiny of EU legislative proposals: Discussion with Department of Agriculture and Food

A presentation was made to the Committee, on 19 April 2006, on COM (2002) 559, a proposal for a regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on genetically modified food and feed. This proposal came into law as Regulation (EC)1829/2003 following approval by the European Parliament and the Council of Ministers in September 2003. The provisions of the regulation came into effect in April 2004. The Committee also discussed a proposed directive on the protection of chickens kept for meat production, COM (2005) 221 final.
