Article reports that Serbia began legal action January 2010 against Croatia for genocide in the early 1990s, when hundreds of thousands of ethnic Serbs fled before Croat forces.

Belgrade has launched its counter-claim at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) because Zagreb refused to drop a genocide suit dating back to 1999 for atrocities by Yugoslav and Serb forces against Croats.

The legal battle in The Hague points to worsening relations between the two largest former Yugoslav neighbours, despite their shared aim of membership in the European Union.
