The competitive position of the City of London is being threatened by legislation to create a single European market in financial services by 2010 says City business, which played a part in drawing up the original blueprint. A report issued on the 4 December 2006, commissioned by Open Europe, a business group campaigning to turn the European Union into a looser trading area, says the badly drafted and excessively complex nature of the legislation is causing growing frustration among City executives.
