Amongst the items discussed and decided at the Internal Market Council were: The Council held a debate and approved a report on the issue of integrating environmental protection and sustainable development in internal market policy. The Commission presented its Communication on a Strategy for the Internal Market. The Council adopted a Resolution on the role of standardisation in Europe. The Council adopted a Resolution on mutual recognition in the context of the follow-up to the Action Plan for the Single Market. A discussion took place on the various simplification and improved regulation initiatives such as SLIM, BEST and the Business Test Panel. A debate was held on the proposal for a Directive on the resale right for the benefit of the author of an original work of art but there is still no agreement on certain details of the proposal. The Council took note of the state of play regarding the proposal for a 13th company law directive concerning takeovers. The Commission presented its Green Paper on liability for defective products. The Council adopted by a qualified majority its Common Position on a Directive on cocoa and chocolate products.
