Article reported that Ireland’s republican leader Gerry Adams sought to follow Greece and France to deliver a further blow against Europe’s austerity economics at the Fiscal Pact referendum in Ireland on the 31 May 2012.

'The elections in France, Greece, Italy, Britain and Germany saw the electorate reject austerity, they know austerity isn’t working', Gerry Adams, Sinn Féin president, said on the 8 May 2012 in an interview with the FT.

Sinn Féin was seen to be tapping into growing public dissatisfaction with the ruling Fine Gael/Labour coalition, which was implementing austerity measures mandated under Ireland’s European Union and International Monetary Fund bailout.
