Article reports on the Opinion of Advocate General issued 31 January 2008 in ECJ Case C-303/06: S. Coleman v Attridge Law and Steve Law in response to a Reference for a preliminary ruling from the Employment Tribunal, London South (United Kingdom). The case relates an important question about the scope of Council Directive 2000/78/EC of 27 November 2000 establishing a general framework for equal treatment in employment and occupation. The Tribunal asks whether the prohibition of discrimination contained in the Directive covers cases where an employee is treated less favourably than her colleagues because, although not herself disabled, she is associated with a disabled person.
