Slovenia rejects pension reform

Article reported that Slovenians rejected the raising of the retirement age in a referendum on the 5 June 2011, dealing a blow to government plans to control public debt and putting the country’s credit rating in jeopardy.

Parliament voted in December 2011 to gradually raise the statutory retirement age to 65 but trade unions opposed the reform and secured a referendum on the issue.
