Pedro Sanchez was re-elected Secretary General of Spain's Partido Socialista Obrero Espanol (PSOE) by its members in primaries held on the 21 May 2017 just seven months after resigning on the 1 October 2016 in a dispute over dealing with the political deadlock facing the country at the time.

Commentators suggested that the PSOE remained a divided party.
