Speech: Lamy: “Trade is part of the solution to the global economic crisis”

Director-General Pascal Lamy, in an address to the International Chamber of Commerce on 2 February 2009, warned members against 'sliding down a slippery slope of tit-for-tat (protectionist) measures,' quoting Mahatma Gandhi who said 'an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind'. He urged the business community to support the Doha Round, which he said 'can be part of the solution to the economic downturn'.
