On the 16 February 2017, Pakistan was victim of a series of terrorist attacks. In this attack, more than 70 people, including children, were killed and many more injured, while visiting the shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar in the province of Sindh.

After this event, the European Union insured that they were determined to stand by Pakistan in fighting all forms of terrorism and would continue to strengthen its cooperation with Pakistan in this regard.
