Press statement issued on 27 August 2015 by the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, after meeting in Brussels with the President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko. Mr Poroshenko also held meeting with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker who said he would support visa-free travel for Ukrainians by the end of 2015. Separately the OSCE reported on the 27 August that the Ukrainian governmet and pro-Russian separatists in the east had agreed to end all violations to the peace deal that was signed in Minsk earlier in 2015. Both sides blamed each other for the ongoing violence. Separately, the Ukrainian government reported that it had reached a debt restructuring deal with its creditors including a write-off of up to €3.4bn. |
