Sterling slides on prospect of fast euro entry

Sterling slid to 15-year lows against the dollar and fell markedly against the euro on 6 June 2001 as traders woke up to the prospect of Tony Blair spearheading a campaign for British membership of the euro-zone after the election of 7 June.
