Features published before that date are still available via an archive website (see related url hyperlinks).Italian shipbuilding company Fincantieri agreed in May 2017 to pay €79 for two-thirds of STX France, which was being sold following the collapse of South Korean parent STX. This was agreed at the time by the French government but the new government of President Emmanuel Macron raised objection to the detail of the deal. The Italian bid had raised fears for French jobs at the Saint-Nazaire site of STX on the Atlantic Coast. Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire announced on the 27 July 2017 that France would temporarily nationalise the STX shipyard while France continued negotiations with Italy on shared ownership of the firm. Bruno Le Maire had talks with his Italian counterpart Pier Carlo Padoan and Italian Industry Minister Carlo Calenda on the 1 August 2017. He said the two countries would work towards reaching a settlement of the issue by the end of September 2017. |
