Europe risks losing its edge in biotechnology if it does not do more to support the nascent industry, the world’s largest industrial enzyme company has warned.

Lars Hansen, head of European operations at Novozymes, a Danish company with a 47% share of the global market for industrial enzymes, told the Financial Times in July 2012 that the EU should consider policies to ensure both supply and demand for bio-based products to keep pace with rivals such as China, Brazil and the US.
