In Sweden's referendum on entry to the single currency, held on 14 September 2003, 56.2% voted against joining, with the Yes vote at 41.7%. The UK's pro-euro lobby believe the Swedish result is likely to end Prime Minister Tony Blair's hopes of a UK referendum on the matter before the next general election.
