The Swiss government said on the 12 July 2010 that film director Roman Polanski would not be sent to the US, because of potential legal ambiguities in the US authorities’ extradition request.

The director, born in Poland and a survivor of the Warsaw ghetto, had been sought by the US authorities since fleeing California more than 30 years ago after pleading guilty to sex with an underage girl. He was arrested in Switzerland in 2009.
