Taiwan has agreed to a further opening up of its markets

in return for EU support for the country's bid to join the World Trade Organisation. Under the agreement, Taiwan has promised to lower tariffs on imports of small cars from the Union once it becomes a member of the trade body. It also pledged to reduced the island's taxes on European liquors and tobacco.
