Date: 18/04/1996 Speaking of taxpayers, we all financed the Commission staff's need to party to the tune of 789,584 ecu last year, according to records on expenditure on “entertainment and official functions”. That may sound like a lot, but it was far less than the 1,064,000 ecu allocated and below the 795,995 ecu spent in 1994 - which probably included a fair amount for an endless round of events to say farewell to Jacques Delors. The allocation remains 1,064,000 ecu for this year, but it is a little early to forecast just how much of this will be spent. Now, where is that chappy with the drinks tray? |
