Abstract:

This book is a collection of presentations made at a conference attended by leading practitioners working in EU business associations, policy makers from EU institutions and academic researchers. The topics addressed have rarely been aired in public before.

The work is split into eight parts. Part one provides overviews. The second part looks at EU institutions, including EU competition law and trade associations, and an assessment of the impact of the White Paper on Governance on business associations. Part three addresses sectoral characteristics. Part four addresses the internal environment, including the role of the Secretary General. Trust is the theme of the two papers in part five. Geographical perspectives are explored in part six and insights from a public interest group are the focus of part seven. The final paper draws together the analysis of earlier chapters and offers some signposts as to the way forward for EU business associations in the next two to five years.

The work will interest practitioners, policy researchers and policy makers engaged in the field of European business relations.

Justin Greenwood is Jean Monnet and University Professor of European Public Policy at Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, and Visiting Professor at the College of Europe in Bruges.
