Date: 31/07/1997 which has seen the worst flooding in 200 years. The decision will need to be approved by EU governments and MEPs. Up to 44 million ecu in structural funds could also be spent on repairing the damage. The announcement follows 2 million ecu of funding sent to similarly affected regions in Poland and the Czech Republic from the EU humanitarian office (ECHO). Foreign Affairs Commissioner Hans van den Broek has indicated that Phare money could also be spent on the crisis. |
