The Commission this week agreed a wide-ranging strategy to combat acidification.

The plan aims to reduce significantly, by 2010, the number of EU regions where the tolerance of sensitive ecosystems to acidity is exceeded, through a series of measures including the establishment of national emission ceilings for acid rain pollutants.
