Under the plan, companies would be legally bound to inform the Commission if they discovered a product was unsafe, national surveillance bodies would have greater powers and the Commission would be able to introduce emergency bans on products considered unsafe for up to a year, instead of just three months as now. In addition, products banned in the EU could no longer be exported to countries outside the bloc.
