Summary: The Common Fisheries Policy came into existence in 1983, as a result of Member States' wish to manage their marine resources in common. Ten years later, in 1992, the CFP was revised for the first time. Its scope was extended. Now after another 10years, the CFP is undergoing a new appraisal. 2002 will be a turning point. And a decisive one. The European Commission intends to initiate a wide debate on the future of the CFP. It presents a number of options in a Green Paper and invites you to state your views on these options. Decisions that will determine the future of the CFP are going to be taken in the coming months. So, now, more than ever, it's time to act. |
