Response to report of the Select Committee on the European Union, 'The future role of the European Court of Justice' (6th Report (2003-04)HL 47). The Government had provided a Response to the Committee's report, which was debated on 21 May 2004. The Committee, however, was concerned about the brevity of the replies given in the Government's Response and wrote to the Government requesting the clearest possible explanation of Article I-6 (Primacy of Union Law) of the Constitutional Treaty and of the jurisdiction of the Court of Justice under the Treaty. The Government subsequently provided a clearer explanation of their understanding of the legal position. The Government's Response to the Committee's Report and the subsequent correspondence were published with this Report for the information of the House of Lords.
