The e-borders programme is a system instituted by the UK Government to gather information electronically on all travellers entering or leaving the UK, whether by air, sea or rail. The main problem with the project, according to the Home Affairs Committee, is that what it requires will make it illegal to operate on intra-EU routes under the EU treaty. The report provides an outline of the programme, describes the problems faced by carriers (airlines, maritime sector, railways) and reaches a number of conclusions and recommendations.
