EUIPO is the European Union Intellectual Property Office responsible for managing the EU trade mark and the registered Community design. It also works with the IP offices of the EU Member States and international partners to offer a similar registration experience for trade marks and designs across Europe and the world.

Until March 2016 it was called the Office for Harmonisation in the Internal Market (OHIM). This study aims to estimate the economic impact of counterfeit smartphones in the European Union and at the global level on the legitimate sector.

The study analysed the number of smartphones sold in 90 countries in every region in the world in 2015, based on point-of-sale tracking of consumer purchases.

The study was carried out in collaboration with the International Telecommunication Union, the United Nations specialised agency for Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs).
