Book abstract:

This book is published by the Federal Trust, whose aim is to enlighten public debate on federal issues of national, continental and global government.

Ukraine is the second largest country in Europe with a population of some 50 million, and following enlargement of the EU will be on our new frontier. This book explores various aspects of the country's development in its ten years of independence and places particular emphasis on its relations with the EU.

The work is organised in five parts. Following a brief introductory chapter which gives the background to several issues of current relevance, part one contains three overviews of EU-Ukraine relations - from senior figures in the Ukraine, the EU and the USA. Part two examines political issues, part three considers economic issues, part four covers foreign policy, defence and regional relations and part five looks at EU-Ukraine relations. The editor concludes with some personal observations on the way forward for EU-Ukraine relations.

The work will interest students, scholars, researchers and policy makers engaged in the fields of EU studies, EU enlargement and international affairs.

Federal Trust books are distributed by Kogan Page.
