The scheme, which paid farmers a subsidy to put pigmeat into chill stores rather than selling it on the market, was introduced to help farmers struggling with low prices in the wake of the Dutch swine fever crisis and oversupply in the industry. But prices have recovered recently, prompting the Union's decision to end the scheme.
