The Euro crisis: The Fiscal Treaty – An initial anaylsis

This paper, published in January 2012, forms part of a series of working papers on the euro crisis by leading Irish commentators.

The author, Peadar o Broin, associate research fellow at the Centre for European Policy Studies, analyses the content of the fourth leaked draft of the ‘Treaty on Stability, Coordination and Governance in the Economic and Monetary Union’ – the European Union’s new fiscal treaty – and examines its impact on the current debt crisis.

Annex 1 of the paper comprises a commentary on the Draft Treaty, prepared on the basis of the fourth draft treaty dated 19 January 2012.
