Summary:

As part of the preparations for a new legal basis for the European Capitals of Culture (ECoC) after 2019, the European Commission launched an online consultation on 27 October 2010, which remained open until 12 January 2011. Through the consultation, the Commission invited individuals, organisations and public authorities to express their view on the future of the ECoC. In particular, respondents were asked to give their opinion on the objectives, rules and procedures of the ECoC Action. This report presents the main findings which emerged from the consultation. In addition to the online consultation and in order to further inform the consultation process, the European Commission organised a public meeting in Brussels on 2 March 2011, which was open to all interested individuals and organisations. The present report focuses solely on the results of the online consultation.
