The European Commission has cleared a 61-million-ecu instalment of state aid to Irish national airline Aer Lingus

This is the final payment made under a decision of December 1993, allowing the Irish government to help finance a restructuring of the firm under certain conditions. The Commission found that Aer Lingus was meeting its aims by shedding staff, cutting overheads and improved profitability at its loss-making maintenance unit.
