The European Commission has criticised the US for a range of trade barriers

which makes it difficult for EU products to enter North America. In its annual report on United States Barriers to Trade and Investment, the Commission highlighted legislative and technical barriers affecting European goods which included laws targeting non-US companies, unilateral sanctions and customs formalities. The increasing number of rules passed at state level against foreign companies doing business with countries such as Burma were also singled out for criticism.
