The European Commission has unveiled plans for tough new EU rules to clamp down on counterfeiters of euro notes and coins

The proposed regulation is aimed at boosting co-operation between Union governments to prevent fraudsters from escaping justice. The proposal also sets out plans for a new unit in the EU's criminal intelligence agency Europol to gather data on counter-feiters from inside and outside the Union.
