Date: 25/06/1998 ...after the country's national assembly voted to bring forward the hunting season to 14 July, a month ahead of the date specified by Brussels. Peter Jørgensen, spokesman for Environment Commissioner Ritt Bjerregaard, said that failure to comply with EU legislation on this matter could result in “significant fines”. The Commission also announced that it was applying to the European Court of Justice to fine Greece 39,975 ecu per day until it transposed Union laws on public procurement into national law. Greece was supposed to have implemented the laws by July 1993. |
