Deploring member states' diverse responses to the 800,000 people who fled war in Bosnia, the Commission called for EU-wide agreement on minimum standards for temporary refugees. “They should be able to support themselves, reunite with their immediate family and send their children to school,” said Justice Commissioner Anita Gradin.
