The European Commission this week finally adopted a consistent policy on the labelling of genetically-modified organisms (GMOs).

In future, all products definitely containing GMOs will have to be labelled as such. There will also be obligatory labels for products which 'may contain' GMOs. Voluntary labelling will be allowed for producers who can prove their products do not include the results of biotechnology. Manufacturers of GMO-products will have the choice of whether or not to state how much of the product is a GMO.
